Always up to new challenges, Merle and Bette Van Liere relocated to Cornwall, New York from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to become innkeepers at Cromwell Manor Inn. What is amazing is that they had never been to the east coast before. Talk about a lifestyle change! Merle and Bette have owned several businesses in South Dakota and most recently were partners and managers of a 30,000 square foot antique mall. Merle loves to cook and his dishes are delicious (Rachel Ray has nothing on him!). Bette claims that Merle's recipes are really hers and that he is just taking credit. She is a ball of fire and will keep you entertained! Bette's attention to detail will amaze you. She says, "Our objective is to figure out what our guest's needs are before they know they need it and to exceed their expectations!" Merle's objective is to figure out Betty. We are pleased to have Merle and Bette at Cromwell Manor Inn. You will enjoy listening to their stories. South Dakota's loss is New York's gain!
About the Owners The husband and wife team of Jack Trowell and Cynthia Krom purchased Cromwell Manor Inn in June of 2001. After an extensive search all over the United States, they found Cromwell Manor Inn for sale on the internet and lived only 8 minutes away! Cynthia is a tenured professor at Mt. St. Mary College in Newburgh where she teaches accounting and business management courses. In addition to her academic studies, she has trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Jack spent his entire corporate life in the supermarket business and now runs the inn full time. Jack and Cynthia's journey to Cromwell Manor Inn is one that will make you a believer in fate (notice their last names Krom and Trowell!) Jack will be happy to tell you the complete story during your stay at the inn.
